With all of the chaos, hatred & oppression that’s going on in the world, it is imperative that we take care of ourselves. For some, it’s going for a long walk or curling up with a good book or even just disconnecting from social media all together. For me, it’s about friendship.
I am such a relational person and truly value my friendships. I HATE small talk and would much rather have one-on-one conversations instead of being in a large group (my introversion is LEGIT). I take and spend time investing in my friendships and do not take them lightly.
Therefore, when the world is falling apart, I find it easy and necessary to unwind with TRUE FRIENDS. Last week, after the murders of Alton Sterling & Philando Castille, my “person” came to visit and lifted my spirits. Although I have only known her a few years, Sha is the sister that I did not know I needed.
We had a “stay-cation” all weekend, catching up on life, talking about GOD, eating some amazing #SoulFood, watching Black movies & taking long naps. We ended the weekend in church which replenished me in a way that I cannot explain. Having this time of friendship & fellowship was just what MY doctor, Jesus, ordered.
This life is full of twists and turns and it is even more tumultuous if you were born with Black or Brown skin. Be sure to show yourself some kindness, especially when the world refuses to see your humanity.
So, how do you keep your soul and spirits lifted? What do you do to uplift yourself in a world that says that you do not matter? Your health, soul and life matters to ME.
Stay well y’all,
#BBG
